January Favourites 2014

January Favourites 2014

As a result of a fairly make-up themed Christmas it is no surprise that this months favourites are all..*drumroll please*… MAKE UP!! 😛 There is actually a full face of make up minus primer, so why not discuss them in application order!!

1.Benefits Hello Flawless Oxygen Wow Brightening Makeup

Starting off with the best!! I have this shade in ‘believe in me’, which is slightly too dark for me, but not enough to be a hassle. I for one just CANNOT get to grips with foundation brushes, so I use my fingers and this just glides right on!! The formula is fairly thin, but not watery, meaning that a little bit goes a long way. It is a medium coverage, I notice that I can still see certain imperfections on my skin but nothing that can’t be fixed with some powder. The two things that amazed me the most about this foundation is the staying power and the finish, my skin has a tendency to get oily and dissolve (?) any foundation I put on during the day, but this I notice is still in place by lunchtime and I can see it’s doing it’s job, also due to the oily nature of my skin I usually go for Matte foundations but this has a nice fresh shine to it rather than a ‘I just got out the shower’ shine that I’m used to.

2.Rimmel Stay Matte Pressed Powder

As I am sure you can see by the state of it, this was not a January find!! This is one of my long-term staple items, I am yet to find a powder that does as good as this one does for the same price (£3.99 – FeelUnique.com). I have this in the colour Pink Blossom, which is the palest shade it comes in. Feel Unique claims ‘ It minimises the appearance of pores with a natural, matte finish. You won’t go out without it!’. They are not lying. What more do you want from a powder?

3&4. Benefit Hoola Bronzer and Benefit Sugarbomb Sugar Rush Face Powder

These two form a combo that has not left my face since Christmas. I have had Hoola for a while now, but I just could. not. get. It made my pale skin look muddy, regardless of which brush I used, however this year Santa AKA my Mum bought me a Kabuki  brush and it is like a different product, I swirl it onto my temples and under my cheeks and it gives such a beautiful glow! The Sugarbomb was also a gift for Christmas. It is made up from 4 different colours which I mix together with my RealTechniques Buffing Brush and place on the apple of my cheeks just heading up slightly towards my temples, it gives a nice shimmer to your skin, but not an overbearing one. It is almost as if it is a mixture between a highlighter and blush. My only negative with these products is the price, as they do retail for around the £20 mark.

5.Max Factor Colour Elixir Lipstick in Midnight Mauve

I would normally have steered right away from a lipstick that had Mauve in the title, however my good friend Becky suggested this one the day after pay day and one thing led to another. And boy am I glad she did. This lipstick is gorgeous from his minimalist packaging to it’s scent – Yep, it smells like Vanilla!! This just glides on and it stays. The colour to me is wearable in most situations, I actually wear it on a day-to-day basis to college, yet I think I could ‘dress it up’ for a night out as well!! Basically, I need to listen to Becky more often.

6. Urban Decay Naked Palette

Honestly, I don’t think that there is much more I can say about this that hasn’t already been said by other bloggers!! The variety of colour, the pigmentation – what’s not to love. I use ‘Buck’ all over my lid and then I blend ‘Darkhorse’ and ‘Smog’ into my crease and viola, my daily eyeshadow!

7.Smashbox Limitless Eye Liner

This little fella came in the Smashbox starter kit when they first came to Boots, and I think it’s valid to say it’s the best eyeliner pencil I have ever tried. It applies to both lid and waterline easily without irritating my eyes which I find that some do, and it has a blendability (is that a word?) to it, I can smudge this to create a smokey eye or I can get a smooth line when I can’t be bothered with the hassle of Liquid Eyeliner, which is most of the time!! I have it in the colouy ‘Onyx’.

And of course lets not forget this little fella, my favourite EVERY month:Harry Dog

That’s this months favourites, hope you’ve had a good start to the year!

P.S I now have a feedback form as I am starting out and I would really like any feedback or just any questions really that you don’t want to post in the comments
